How the Booking Slot System Will Change Your Visit to Seceda viewpoint
Seceda is one of the most iconic mountain viewpoints in the Dolomites.
Its dramatic ridgeline, rolling alpine meadows and panoramic views over the Odle group have made it a must-see destination especially…for couples dreaming of a proposal or an engagement moment in the mountains.
Starting in 2026, access to Seceda will no longer be completely free-flow. You might have already heard about landowners applying a fee upon entering their territory to reach the viewpoint in 2025. That was an entirely solo idea, but it’s true that things are getting a little bit wild during peak seasons, when visiting Seceda (see hours- long queues for taking the gondolas. These are among the reasons why local authorities are introducing a time-slot booking system with variable pricing, designed to better manage visitor numbers and protect the landscape.
Updated 03/31/26:
If Seceda is on your Dolomites list this year, here’s a small but important update: online bookings are now open for the Seceda lifts!
You can check and buy tickets here (official website – English page):
https://www.seceda.it/en/tickets
This season, the system has changed slightly:
When booking online, you’re asked to select a time slot for your ascent, with availability every 30 minutes. At the same time, booking in advance doesn’t seem to be strictly mandatory, the official message focuses more on avoiding queues and getting a small discount. At the moment, there’s in fact a 5% discount on online tickets and I can see that tickets are already selling quite fast.
You can also choose between different ticket types:
– Round trip (up & down)
– One way (ascent only or descent only)
– Seceda 360 (including Seceda + Fermeda)
So… what does this actually mean?
Right now, it looks like you can still show up and buy your ticket on-site. But with time slots already in place, it raises a fair question: what happens when those slots start filling up? It’s not clearly stated yet but it’s reasonable to expect that popular times (especially mid-morning) could sell out in advance. If you already have a date in mind, booking ahead is probably the safer choice.
Quick info:
– Departure from Ortisei (gondola + cable car)
– Total ride time: about 15 minutes
– Expected opening: late May to early autumn
Seceda is one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Dolomites and it might be worth it to catch the fast way up if you’re not up for the hike up.
While we wait for news around val di Funes, you could discover some other ridges and unbeatable views on WilDolomites that might be an easy alternative to Seceda ;)

Back to the original post:
If you’re planning a trip to the Dolomites in 2026 (or beyond), here’s how the new system is expected to work and why many couples are already choosing quieter alternatives just minutes away.
How the Seceda Booking Slot System Will Work
From 2026, visiting Seceda during peak periods will require advance booking of a specific time slot.
Instead of unlimited access throughout the day, visitors will select a defined access window, helping to spread tourism more evenly and reduce overcrowding at the most popular hours.
Time-based access – Seceda mountaintop
The day will be divided into multiple entry slots, from early morning to late afternoon.
Each slot will allow a limited number of visitors, meaning:
- Peak hours (late morning to early afternoon) will be more regulated
- Early morning and later afternoon slots will be quieter
- Planning ahead will become essential during high season
Dynamic Pricing: Why Time and Season Matter
One of the key elements of the new system is dynamic pricing.
Instead of a fixed ticket price, access costs will vary depending on:
- Time of day
- Seasonality (high vs. low season)
- Demand
In practice, this means:
- The most requested time slots will likely be more expensive
- Less crowded hours may come with lower prices
- Visiting outside peak season will remain more flexible and accessible
For travelers, this creates both a challenge and an opportunity: those who plan carefully can enjoy a more peaceful experience often with better light and fewer people around.
At this point, you’re probably asking yourself: “When will this actually go live?”

What This Means for Proposals and Engagement Moments
For couples dreaming of a proposal at Seceda, the new system changes the experience in an important way.
While the view remains breathtaking, the moment itself becomes more structured and time-dependent.
Your proposal will need to fit within a booked slot, often shared with many other visitors arriving at the same time.
For some couples, that’s perfectly fine.

For others especially those seeking privacy, intimacy and emotional authenticity, it raises an important question:
Is the most famous spot really the most meaningful (to us) one?

A Quiet Proposal Spot Near Seceda (Few People Know About)
Very close to Seceda, there is a small, peaceful alpine lake, nestled at the starting point of several stunning hikes.
It’s easily accessible, naturally quiet and far less crowded even during high season (with the only exception of high winter season and some August days).
This is where I photographed a proposal earlier this year.
No audience.
No pressure from time slots.
Just calm water, soft mountain light and the Dolomites rising quietly all around.
“Nadia was so incredibly sweet. She came up with the perfect place for our proposal and we couldn’t be happier with how the pictures turned out!”

This location offers something that will become increasingly rare under the new regulations:
- Freedom of timing
- A relaxed atmosphere
- A genuine, unforced moment
For photography, the reflections, surrounding peaks and open space create images that feel timeless and deeply personal.
Why Hidden Locations Will Become More Valuable After 2026
With the introduction of booking slots and variable pricing, local knowledge becomes essential.
The Dolomites are not just about famous viewpoints, they are full of lesser-known places that offer:
- The same mountain grandeur
- Better light conditions
- More privacy
- Greater flexibility
As access to hotspots like Seceda becomes more regulated, these quieter locations will define the future of meaningful mountain experiences.
Close to the little emeraldesque lake there’s another perfect spot to propose:

Planning a Visit or Proposal at Seceda in 2026
If Seceda is on your list, keep these points in mind:
- Book your access slot well in advance during peak season
- Consider early morning or late afternoon for a calmer experience
- Be open to nearby alternatives for intimate moments
- Focus on experience over visibility
Sometimes, the most unforgettable moments happen away from the most photographed places.
